background

Toni Clarkson, United Kingdom

It’s important to me that I feel fit and that I keep myself in shape. Following my MRI scan at the NHS, I still didn’t feel in control of the situation and wanted to be better informed.

I suffered a terrible injury on a dry ski slope in preparation for my first-ever skiing trip. Despite my best efforts, the pain in my knees persisted, making it almost impossible for me to exercise. I wanted to regain my fitness, and I got a referral to see an orthopaedic consultant at a local NHS hospital, where I underwent an MRI scan. The results were inconclusive and ambiguous; having received a one-paragraph report from my consultant, I was disappointed with the lack of information it provided. I contacted a musculoskeletal radiologist at Diagnose.me, Professor Claudia Schueller-Weidekamm, and was delighted with the level of detail in her report and the speed with which it was delivered. The eight-page report included explanatory images and diagrams, and it gave me a greater understanding of my condition, which enabled me to have an informed conversation with my treating doctor and challenge certain aspects of the treatment. After discussing the treatment options available, I underwent a double-knee arthroscopy.
